Sunday Selections

The eyes of the future are looking back at us and they are praying for us to see beyond our own time. They are kneeling with hands clasped that we might act with restraint, that we might leave room for the life that is destined to come. To protect what is wild is to protect what is gentle. Perhaps the wilderness we fear is the pause between our own heartbeats, the silent space that says we live only by grace. Wilderness lives by this same grace. Wild mercy is in our hands.

    • I met Sandra at a Simple Living conference back in 2002. These were the first words I ever heard her speak – from memory, of course. She is amazing like that.

I love the idea of the “eyes of the future looking back”.

      Haunting, really.

  1. A Simple Living Conference sounds wonderful. Does such a thing exist today?

Yes. Haunting. Good word! Eyes of the future looking back. Yes. I thought about that kind of theme as we revisited our wedding photos yesterday on our anniversary. Such a well-photographed day/milestone 17 years ago. It was a little eerie knowing what I know now about how our lives have unfolded and also how the lives have unfolded for those in attendance to witness that moment in 1997. Interesting perspective on time.

“Wild mercy is in our hands.” I love it. I think I know what that means intuitively…Thanks for posting this!

You are such a lovely friend! Looking forward to talking soon.
